The issue of running MTH engines on a ZWL comes up now and again - https://ogrforum.com/topic/are...-mth-engine-friendly - but I haven’t read of anyone with my problem.

I recently replaced my  ZW Multi Watt with a ZWL.  The ZWC (if that’s what it can be called) had been working well in conventional (since I cut the antenna), but I’m ready to think about command control, hence the upgrade.  Question is this: I have two MTH locos – a Protosound PRR K-4 (MT-3018LP upgraded to PS3)  and a PS-2 GG1 (20-5553-1 upgraded with a PS-32 5V board) - that seemed to be running fine with the ZWC but with the ZWL they run very slow even with the throttle wide open.  Barely above a crawl.  I am still running everything conventionally.  All other locos – Lionel, Atlas with TMCC, Williams and Weaver – run fine.

The output on the ZWL is above 18 volts, but could there be a problem in the ZWL, which is still under warranty?

I know there are issues about waveforms, but aren’t the waveforms of the PH-180 bricks and the ZWL the same?  Or maybe the issue of ZWC vs, ZWL is irrelevant.  Is the ZWL simply incompatible with certain MTH engines?   Should I avoid adding any more MTH locos if I want to keep the ZWL?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.  I’d love to hear I am doing something stupid.

Chris
