Mth CP Holiday Stage Box Car Problem

I have a new Premier CP Holiday Train Box Car with Stage never run. Talking to a friend who has same car. First time running all the led lights went out ,he said they 'burned' out,sent back to MTH. Now my question, can I do any preventive work before I use this car so my lights will not burn out?
