I had to started this project about a month or so ago and have recently finished up most of the modifications and painting.
I am still looking to add 805s on both units but I am running them with stock couplers for now.
The criteria for detailing was based on photos and books written by JF Garden(Crow and the Kettle) and Jim Hopes “ those beautiful C Liners” soft cover books and of course photos from Nicholas Morant, famed CPR company photographer
Modifications I wanted to complete as follows:
1) Fix front pilot install Kadee
2) Replace 2 single air horns with Leslie 3 chime assembly(courtesy of AF Alco diesel fame)
3) remove one 36” exhaust fan and intake as per standard practice
4) Relocate engine exhaust stacks to correct location. This required reversing the smoke unit on the chassis and modifications on the shell
5) Move front windshields forward to be flush with front edge trim
6) install appropriate intake dampers supplying radiator cooling fans
7) Repaint and finish with Tamiya paints and Black Cat Decals
Note: I only did the modifications to an AB set at this time(I wish to upgrade the slave A to PS3 due to a blown board)
Here are some pics of the project
Hopefully some might be inspired to jump in and try their hand at some of the more rewarding parts of the hobby in my opinion
