Marty:There was a video about 10 mo. ago of Mike W. demoing the Hikel app and he said the engine soft key acronyms could be changed to the users preference (ie S13-idle sound 3, which is actually 'steam blow down' could be relabeled to something like 'steam bd') Would this apply to the current software to be released or to the 'full blown' one next year? I have Barry's Companion 3 and couldn't find any reference to that specific feature. By the way , excellent version 3, kudos to Barry and his posse.

Well, I am kind of at a crossroads on my layout and for some reason I have developed signal issues across the whole layout. When I first wired everything I had signal strength of 10 everywhere now I have places where I am out of RF range. Im not big on labor intensive messing with things and right now the DCS system is on the verge of leaving the layout. I want to see the app before I get more invested into the system or decide to go legacy only

I'm sure you know this.

You can have the signal go south by just placing a new offending piece of equipment on the tracks. Sometimes an engine or lighted car for example, can soak up the signal. Sometimes it's more noticeable just when a piece of equipment is nearest to where the affected engine is running.

 Have you added something recently?

Well, I've got the Atlas CZ zone the outside loop, the Superliners on the inside loop and the UP excursion on the center line. I've added lots of things since the initial setup and wiring and there's been quite a few changeovers in motive power and rolling stock. My layout needs to be bullet proof so just about anybody can come run trains but chriminy, the DCS is just too high maintenance

Matt,

I don’t know if this will be any help, but I am in process of setting up my Christmas Layout.  My layout is about 12 x 16 with 8 blocks.  I was getting all 10’s, but when I plugged in my Legacy Base I started to get out of RF range and 4’s.  At first I was puzzled by it.  I checked all my cabling, but then I found the problem by unplugging my Legacy Base.  I fixed the problem by using different gauge of wire from Legacy Base to my terminal block.  I also changed the gauge of wire from my terminal block to TIU.  Now with my Legacy Base plugged in I am get 10’s and 9’s and have not seen any more out of FR range.  If you have Legacy Base plugged in, maybe unplug it to see if it is causing the issue.

I know I have a huge amoutn of work to do to get this issue resolved. Emptying the layout of all the locos and rolling stock cleaning the track to spotless and then testing it. this is going to take me the better part of a weekend then another weekend to most likely find the problem. This is all time i would rather spend doing other things like running the trains

I get the "OUT OF RF RANGE" while doing s signal strength test with the locos. It goes from 10 to 1 to "OUT OF RF RANGE" in the span of 3 feet in the same power block. I'll take a video of it. It's weird if you sound the horn at the wrong spot the horn will blow until it's gets back to a DCS signal
