1st,how do I,being new to DCS&O Scale after 2 years now,set up my DCS/TIU System to operate MTH Diesels? My diesels have Proto 3.

I have 2 wires hooked up to a section of flextrack 1 red the other black-so far I'm with it.(Lol)

I have a power block from a Z 1,000 I'm told has to be powered up & connected with a "barrel jack" to the DCS System to make it work. This is where I'm lost. I have variable & I believe fixed connections on the DCS/TIU front & back-to what leads do I connect wires? I won't be using the DCS system for anything but engine control,no turnouts, etc.

Next up,what do you gentlemen suggest is best for removing numbers on Atlas 4750 hoppers? I'm  going to use Woodland Scenics dry transfer replacement numbers with flat finish. In HO,I used Badger airbrush cleaner with decent success without messing up the paint for removing numbers&letters but don't know about Atlas' paint.

Thank you to all for your help in advance.

Hook up your power supply to the TIU fixed 1 IN channel on the TIU.   Fixed 1 out  goes to the track.   Place the engine on the track and power up.

Next...  grab the remote and  press  Menu/ System/ Engine set up/ add engine/ add mth engine..... the engine should add to the remote with an ID number and name.. now press start up... think it's the number  3 key on the remote......This should get you up & running.   Welcome aboard and  come on  over to the DCS forum.

MR P:

So far I have 1 46 ft run of 5 tracks in mind eventually to be tied together on 2 ends & another 46ft run.

So far I have no blocks so no terminal blocks to connect to. So I have 1 hot wire & 1 common wire. So I connect the 2 wires to the TIU/DCS unit in which terminals,Fixed or Variable Current,IN or OUT? What do I connect the Barrel Jack to? I'm told I have to connect 2 wires to the +/- are on the Z 1,000 power brick?

The track wires will go to fixed 1 out. The power from the Z1000 needs to go to the fixed 1 in. If you have the barrel adapter, it can go directly from the Z1000 block to the TIU. If not, you can use the Z1000 controller. The output if the controller will go to the input of the TIU fixed 1.

I remember reading somewhere you should not use the controller between the power brick and the input to the fixed channels on the TIU.  I'm assuming someone didn't cut off the barrell jack on the Z1000, as I've seen other people do.

So, for the input side, power brick into barrell connector, then barrell connector's banana plugs into input fixed 1 on TIU.  From what Alan says, he will need to split the output from fixed 1 to a switch or series of switches to power the seperate track blocks.

Fellas: I have no controller or terminal block right now. All I have in my possession is 2 wires from the track,a DCS and TIU combined,(all 1 unit),a barrel jack,& a Z1,000 power brick. I was told later on,I'll need to separate my layout into at least 4 blocks to isolate the power in 1 block at a time do to the size,50'x25'.

Why not ask the techy guys at MTH?     I use DCC and I have found all mfg that I deal with have someone assigned to answer tech questions.    I have needed to get help from QSI, NCE, Digitrax, and Lenz.     All got back to me with answers within a day or two.    I use Digitrax controllers, but have Decoders from the other 3 plus MRC and SoundTraxx.

It's not that complicated.

Z1000 Brick >>>>>> barrel adapter >>>>>>> TIU fixed 1 input

TIU fixed 1 output >>>>>>> Track

That's it.

It's all in the words.

If you look at the bottom of the brick, that is a barrel jack.  He would need 2 banana plugs to go into the TIU fixed 1 or just use the wires and screw the nut down.

Since this is the 2 rail forum I am assuming he is running 2 rail DC trains.  If so then he would need to put the barrel jack from the Z1000 brick into the AUX power jack, to power up the TIU.  Then using the two wires to the track he could run the TIU in passive mode to run DCC or DCS to his DC power engines.

If you are running AC engines then you would need to do 1 of 2 things.  Cut the barrel jack off and use the two wires to feed Fixed 1 IN and your track wires to Fixed 1 OUT or use the brick to AUX power and get another transformer to connect to any of the inputs.
