I am looking for any feedback on this engine from any of you out there that have one. I know there are hard to find now, I have located one BNIB but was looking for any insight before I buy. I have watched a bunch of videos on it on youtube, looks & sounds great.

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

A great engine IMO. Great detailing and the horn is spot on. Some guys think the sound is a little low. To me it is OK. The diesel sound is very good, I'm very impressed with the engine. Don't pay a premium for it though. Another run from MTH is coming in November. The engineering car is also very nice.

Hi Tom,

I had called Trains R Fun this morning and like you said he did sell his last one. I just talked to Dave at Mercer Junction after reading the post above you from david1 about MTH re-releasing another batch of these sometime in November. I just placed my order with Mercer Junction for the next release. Thanks to all for the information, I can not wait to get it!!

I bought the scale-wheeled set. MTH did a good job on the locomotive and the test car is fairly close to the prototype. The lighting effect is well done -- the lights "chase" toward the trucks when the locomotive is accelerating and away from the trucks when decelerating (charging the batteries.) I liked it so much, I bought the ES44AC demonstrator to go with it as GE ran that locomotive with the hybrid from time to time. This test run was literally right after I took it out of the box.

Ron,

I was the same at first, I saw the Lionel prototype version a couple of years back at Lionel's service center and just could not get into it for the $800.00 or so price tag. I knew MTH was going to make one but then when it got held up and not released I forgot about it. I was looking through some you tube videos the other night and ran across some video's of it and like you said "have to" have it.

AGHRMatt,

Thanks for the video!! It looks great I can not wait to get mine!! Just like a little kid, I want it now!!!

Thanks guys,

I have to tell you, it was worth the wait, especially with the bonus of being equipped with Proto-3. The lighting is much better, the ditch lights flash more realistically and it operates perfectly with the Proto-2 ES44AC demonstrator. Like an idiot, I didn't film it when I ran them together (maybe this weekend.) I ordered the second test car MTH listed, but I'll have to convert that to scale wheels later.
