Hi,

I got an MTH M&M's F3 Loco today from eBay seller... looks just like my previously purchased M&M's non-PS2 unit that was part of the original RTR set.

Put it on track... power on, typical power up, PS2-like sounds.  Everything works well!    but,

Some strange things I can't figure out:

1) there are 2 headlights.  The seller said "one headlight doesn't work"... so I looked.  The top headlight is off, but... the bottom headlight looks like a MARS light, (not really MARS, but) slowly fades up and down - looks great! But no mention of this in any advertising.

2) On the bottom, there are the usual 3V charging port and a volume control, but...  there's a switch on the bottom in a spot where a switch is supposed to be.  ON-OFF stamped into chassis.  No idea what it does, but everything works right so I really don't want to turn it off!  (whatever it is)... not a smoke switch - there's no port for smoke on top.

Seller didn't include instruction book, but in the online manual  there is  no mention of switch or fancy headlight!

My Locosound version (30-4190-0) of the loco has the same hole for the switch but nothing in the hole.

Any thoughts? ... or someone who has this loco (part of set 30-4190-1)

Thanks in advance,

Ed

I've got the PS2 B&O Rugged Rails F3, from the B&O Freight RTR set circa 2004. No Mars light, but I do have the switch on the bottom. The switch is to shut off the rear coupler. If you have a dummy unit behind it, you shut of the rear coupler on the F so you don't uncouple from the rest of your engines.

For the headlight, perhaps a reset is in order or the bulb is dead.

They are great little engines. My B&O is a regular runner with over 4K trouble free miles on it.

You probably just need a new bulb.  However, before you put a new one in check to see what voltage is coming out of the pin hole where you plug the bulb in.  After I replaced my engines bulbs twice in a short time, I stuck a meter in the hole and found out the bulbs were getting track power.    This can be that it needs a new small unit I think is called the FET.  My FET kept failing, so the boards had to be pulled off and a shorted out wire was found which was caused during assembly by a screw.
