Received MTH Premier Frisco E-8's.   Beautiful models, lots of great detail.  The Frisco E units had a very distinctive characteristic--they were named for race horses, with the names in script below the cab window.

First, a view of the models:MTH Frisco E-8 [1)MTH Frisco E-8 [2)

Now a view of the prototype unit I took in May 1967 while a college freshman in Rolla, MO.  The paint certainly looks better on the model, but look closely at the name:

Notice the name is script, not a type font.  I certainly would have expected MTH to do a more thorough job of lettering these units, to make them perfect.  Below is a magazine that has all the names, showing exactly how the script name should be.  So that information is available.

I think the lettering and striping should be gold outlined in white??

The Racehorse scheme evolved over time, losing the white outlines and transmuting into duLux gold (really an almost dull ocher) as the $$$ spent on passenger liveries dried up.  Other than the wretched font of the name, the scheme here reflects a late version of the engines pretty well, except that the gold seems a tad too yellow.

Well it’s always fun to stumble across an old thread I missed when pretty new in the forum. The Frisco is not done very often so this was a welcome issue for Midwest collectors. MTH had issued this about 14-16 years earlier as an ABA - a Long wait if you missed run 1. They seemed scarce as hens teeth as they never showed up in the secondary market. I was both stunned and ecstatic when the new E8s were offered. Even better - now as stand alone models - 2 powered “A” units and an unpowered “A”. Frisco did not have E8 “B”s and MTH nicely chose to issue only a prototypical offering.  With the 3 “A”s offered as such, it was So Nice to buy the 3 with the ability of running a primary powered-unpowered AA and a secondary powered A. Great fun. Great options.  Nice model portraits Tony. I was a freshman at Rolla in 67 too. Though a “little” late to the thread, I’ll add a portrait of mine. 3 E8s and a “bonus” Frisco E7.
