I just received a brand new MTH Premier Pacemaker Hudson from Trainworld (my second, long story).

When I put the engine on the track and add power I get a loud buzz from the Tender and then the track shorts out right away.  I only have the MTH DCS Remote Commander controller, not a full DCS system.

I have tried reconnecting the tender to the engine multiple times along with other things like just putting the engine or the tender on the track alone.  Just the engine, obviously nothing happens, just the tender I get the same experience, nothing happens.  I'm guessing the issue is in the drawbar but there is no obvious issue.  I have tried multiple tracks, same issue.  My other Lionel engines work fine on the same track.  My only other MTH engine, a railking, works fine as well.

Any thoughts on what could be wrong or what I could try?  This is a replacement for my first engine which had a bent side rod, I'd hate to have to pack this one up and send it back too.  Trainworld is running out of these engines, I might not be able to get a replacement.

The engine, nor the tender will work without one another. If you’re seeing a dead short, without any obvious silly things, ( like a stray screw jammed up in the rollers, etc) then it sounds like game, set, match.

wonder why Trainworld took back the first locomotive when all you needed was an eccentric rod??  that would’ve been a 10 minute replacement…..unless you specified a return? …..

now it seems you’re going down a rabbit hole,…..hopefully you get a good one!

yeah, Trainworld didn't have the part and when I contacted MTH they told me just bend the rod straight (since they didn't have the part either) which I wasn't about to do.  On an engine this expensive I want the thing perfect out of the box.

I checked again this AM, no lose screws or parts that are obviously damaged or out of place.  I'll contact Trainworld for another replacement.
