Mth-lionel corp tinplate issues

SORRY for your damage! 

I have encountered roof line paint chips on these items:

The BRUTE "Showroom" cars - ALL four! 

The "Blue Comet" add-on car "Barnard"! 

A red 216 LCT hopper car

I own two of the earlier production ("Tinplate Traditions") traditional 408E's and they are perfect - also the matching 418 series cars.

Apparently, later LCT production have paint issues?

MTH sent me METAL paint samples and I was able to get them computer-matched at my local paint store. 

The actual MTH touch-up paint requires a two-step process involving a hardener and it is a PITA, in my opinion. Easier to get a paint chip and get your own matching paint!

   Art is definitely right, you might want to talk to Steve (Papa) her on the OGR

he has some restoration techniques that are just out of this world, he may have some great ideas for you.

Talking about QUALITY Art.

I understand, but it depends on WHICH repros, WHEN, and by WHOM.

The originals, if not well cared for, had their share of problems, and I have reworked a few in my time! Been there; done that!

True Ron, they do have their advantages. But one must remember that any of the trains that were not up to snuff, or just bad runners out of the box, those trains never made it past 1945.

I personally would buy vintage.
