The circuit board is fried in this engine and apparently there is not much that can be done to repair. This set was purchased in 2010 and neither MTH nor Lionel seems to have any system components to bring it back to life. Is there anything that can be dropped into the MTH/Lionel 2-4-0 engine that can get it to run in conventional mode? I heard that 3rd Rail's ERR system isn't available anymore as well. Again - thoughts to get this just to run would be great....Thanks....

For the simplest fix, you can stick a bridge rectifier in it to at least make it run forward,….super cheap, easy, & effective …..if you want the headlight to work, you’ll have to get a bulb rated for whatever that thing runs at voltage wise…..probably a 12V bulb would do just fine…..you could even go old school, and use a bayonet base, or screw base bulb from the automotive world,…

Have you tried Dallee Electronics?
Hi, you could also install a ps 3/2 board and harness to repair it if you're interested depends how much you want to spend on repair! what state do you live in? do you also have the engine item number?
Alan
Yes a Proto 3 board will fix it. You can also use a Electric Railroad Board from Third Rail.

You could just set it on the shelf for now. MTH at some point will have replacement boards available again to repair. The replacement won't require a battery to mess with.
A loco purchased in 2010 may be a PS2 3v loco. It will have a tag on the bottom of the loco or tender. Locos cataloged in 2009 were PS2. Depending on what is wrong with it, they are, to some extent, repairable. A good ASC may be able to fix it. One thing to look for is the smoke funnel shorting on the smoke heater solder pads, wheels out of quarter overloading the motor, pinched wire and delaminating speaker which can cause the board to fail.
I already researched the engine it is a ps 2 3-volt board! item number 10-1222-1! that's why I said it can be repaired with a ps3/2 board!

Yeah, but a good tech can try to fix the board before upgrading it…
I agree with you 100% Jon, have fixed many ps 2 3-volt boards also! the reason I told Stephen there were boards available was he said MTH had no parts to repair the engine!

As far as I am concerned Jon is the man when it comes to tinplate repair. He has fixed numerous tinplate trains for me. He's not just a factory trained repair guy..He is the factory repair guy.

I’d second that, ….my buddy Perry up at the Toy Exchange has had Jon do a blue million repairs,….always top notch,….
