MTH PS-3 PCB’s forced - fit?

What the _ _ _ _?

Well after having to paint all the window frames silver on 7 of these cars, I finally got to the motor car.

Removing the shell, I discovered another surprise; held by one screw, the PS-3 board doesn’t seem to fit properly in the motor car.

The angled PCB is also applying pressure to the plastic seating frame.

I bet the original PS-2 PCB probably fit just fine.

Where was the MTH R&D department?

I guess I always find this stuff because I’m a Quality Failure Analysis Technician for a living.

The last thing I found is that they took a grinder to the B&O GP-35 dummy rear side trucks & coupler frames to make them fit, now this!

It’s a shame we pay big bucks for this stuff only to discover this kind of quality in a product.

I have to wonder if Mike W. is even aware of things like this, especially with his name on it.

What’s under you’re shell?

S.

Thanks Fred.

Well-fitting all these (unexpected extra work) items in between weathering customer cars, thought I would never get done.

Rather boring task. Seems like it took months.

Maybe I should bill MTH $500.00 in labor to correct these?

Great little town you have been putting together!

I’ve been quickly lurking on Sunday. Looks like you just need some trains now to go with it all, LOL!

Hope to see more of you're great modeling on the showcase soon.

S.

Fantastic weathering/detailing! Your work is an inspiration.

There is an Italian phrase I learned on Staten Island, "The fish is rotten at the head." Based on recent MTH catalogs and the failings pointed out here and elsewhere, it would appear that Mike W. has lost interest - at least in American equipment. The European stuff at the back of the catalogs looks wonderful but I certainly have no interest in owning or operating any of it. As Lionel proved long ago, when top management loses interest the organization is doomed to failure.

Thanks RTH.

I also failed to mention that the motor car will not push-pull a SIX car set around 042 curves. So I guess the add-on's are just for looks. I'll use them with the custom Lionel LIRR MU's which contain better electric motor sounds.

I also wonder who Bella Rose was listening to SND 7. LOL! Maybe it was his girlfriend?

Operating Sunday morning I realized the station stop conductor is alone in the car without any background noises or busy commuters. Why bother?

I offered to supply LIRR sound support but didn’t receive a reply.

Yep, had the exact same problem when I painted the interior and added passengers to the power car. Took me some time to get things put back together along with some frustration and a little force fitting. In the end it all works fine and looks great. By the way when adding passengers to the power car I had to cut them in half length wise so they would fit. Once put together you can't tell the passengers have been butchered.

I would just like to see a little more imagination and effort put into doing these conductor sounds.

The person at least should familiarize them self with the geographic area and proper town pronunciation to get it right.

Why couldn’t they have added convincing background sounds going on while announcing the station stops?

The accelerating MU motor sounds are not very prominent either. They should sound like 2:39 at the end of this video or an R-1 subway motor.

Cool video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?f...ge&v=-gX1AtT6jzA

This is the best LIRR video – I have the full DVD.

Do the MTH LIRR MU sets have any type of conductor announcements or any type of announcements?
