MTH M2 Challenger #20-3242-1 Thoughts

I will try to submit pictures of my M2 tonight. MTH did a fantastic job with this engine. Very detailed, and runs well!

Side clearance is a big issue with a challenger.  Test run on your layout to make sure you have ample clearance.  I had to move vertical upper rail supports to get proper clearance.

Thanks for the heads up Bruce! I know that the curvature that I’ll be running it on is on a modular lay out that has curves as large as 0-99.  So clearance should not be a problem😁

One thing that I ran into recently on the M2 challenger, and I can’t remember where it was that I saw this, was that it had gear binding issues. Has anyone run across this?

i’m trying to make a decision on possibly purchasing one of these and this would help me in deciding to purchase it or not.

I had just purchased this engine and so far has ran great for the three days I have run time on my layout.  This M2 has lots of great detail on it.  The only thing that I have noticed is that the whistle seems to be a bit low in volume, other then that I have had no problems.  Make sure you do a good lube job before running it, my M2 was dry.  Also I put a BCR2 in it.  I purchase mine NOS,new old stock, and being it was about 14 years old I took out the battery.  Good Luck, I don’t think you will be disappointed.

Did MTH keep the tooling for the M2 and WM 2-8-0 or did Lionel purchase both?
