MTH Mels Drive In "Grinding Sound" operation repair failure. #30-9105 | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

Starts up, runs a couple of seconds, then loud grinding sound, no movement of car hops. Have boxed up ready to send back to MTH with their RA # attached. Tech today said they "could Maybe fix it? " " Have to see it first." ..

I have seen this problem posted several times on the forum.... I have in postwar 50 years but this sounds over my head for a fix.

Because of high shipping costs back and forth, plus their unknown parts and labor cost,( guessing 120.00 plus) wondering if I would be better off buying the new version in their 2020 accessory catalogue #30-1988 ? Also seems risky under the recent announcements..if it will be produced??

Any ideas for a fix ? It is the favorite accessory of mine and the grandkids.....Would really appreciate some help on this.

I can't offer any help, but it sounds like it might be dirt/dust/grime in the gear assembly.
