MTH NYC PS-1, what do the “SL” markings stand for?

According to  the NYC Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipment (page 77)  by David Sweetland and Robert Yanousey, SL stenciling indicated assignment to Frigidaire appliance service.

Glad to know that, I always thought it stood for secured load.  Thanks for that bit of information and thanks for bringing up the question.

It is marked for appliance service.

SL is still T.B.D.   

SAFE or SECURE LOAD ???????????????????

Possible indication may be Shipper's Load and Count - A term denoting that the contents were laded and counted by the shipper and not checked or verified by the carrier.

No freight car gurus out there?

According to one of my Santa Fe books (proof the internet doesn't know everything,)  "SL" was a type of load restraining equipment installed in boxcars under the "XM" (general service boxcar) AAR designation.

I've been looking for a Chevy Tahoe LTZ, but no one knows what that means either, LOL!
