I have just picked up a MTH PCC trolley PS2, with Washington DC sounds.  The trolley operation is perplexing compared to the regular trains.  It took a while to figure out how to operate the train for trolley stops.  I have not yet mastered the starting of the stops to be at the correct location yet, any tips on how to start the train for automatic mode at the desired first stop location?

I also do not understand is why in the DCS remote when idle sounds are selected, they do not play.  The other sounds play when the soft keys are selected, but not the idle sounds.  Is this typical or is it user error?

Bill,

Do you have a copy of the DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition? If so, refer to 5. Subways and Trolleys on pages 103-108, for a complete discussion of Transit Station Stop technology and programming under DCS.

I also do not understand is why in the DCS remote when idle sounds are selected, they do not play.

Make sure that Cab Chatter is turned on: menu/Sound/Cab Chatter and press the AUTO soft key.

This and a whole lot more is all in MTH’s “The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!

FWIW, I had a similar situation where I couldn't trigger the station announcements from the remote either stopped or running after doing a board replacement.  It finally turned out that I had to do a conventional transformer reset to get the sounds back.  The feature or factory resets did not fix it, only the conventional reset fixed it.  This was on a PCC trolley.

A conventional reset might be worth a try if Barry's suggestion doesn't do it.

Barry, I bought the book and followed the instructions.  There is no way I would have figured it out without the book.  Now the trolley stops on the spot as desired and even works on random stops. It looses very little distance over an hour of running, so that it great.

Maybe you can answer this question I asked in the DCS forum, after about 30 or so minutes, the trolley will suddenly speed up.  I run the loop at 9mph.  At some point it jumps to ~30 mph and seems to increase over time.  If I spin the speed wheel on the remote when it is going this fast it will correct to the slower speed on the remote.  Typically, the remote has gone to sleep and has to be turned back on to reset the speed.  Any idea of why the speed changes?

Thanks,

Bill

I haven't a clue. I've never seen this kind of behavior before. About the only thing I can thing of is that there's some kind of a heat-related issue with the engine. I wouldn't suspect DCS since the entire sequence is repeatedly running in the engine, not in the TIU or the remote.

I'd call MTH and discuss it with a tech.
