Hi, new member here. I am looking at getting a proto 1 New Haven E33 from MTH and I was wondering if it could be double headed back to back with another one. I do not have much knowledge on proto 1 but I know that some of the engines have the switch so they can start in reverse and I was wondering if this engine had that. Thanks!

I don’t know if you are looking for more pulling power, but MTH did make E33 dummies. There is one on eBay now, but it is VGN. I believe I have seen NH versions for sale before...

If there is no switch to choose starting direction (forward or reverse, quite a few PS1 diesels and electrics have one on the frame) then just reverse the wiring to the motors so the trailing unit starts in the opposite direction.
I reversed the leads to the motors on a pair of Wiliams FP45s and PAs many years ago. Normally they sync fine, however if they don't, I simply stop the engines and give the boards about 15 seconds to reset. Works great. Before I got away from Williams (just do to being a rivet counter type) I would run three powered locomotives. in this manner. I have a pair of MTH Conrail E33s, but one is friend. Not sure what my goal for those are these days.
Thanks Lou and Jonathan. If there ends up not being one that’s what I will do. I’m assuming lights need to be reversed as well.
