I was just checking the MTH shipping schedule to get an idea of when the new Royal Hudson was going to be delivered and to my shock and surprise I see this on the part next to the engine...cancelled

So to try to figure out if there was anything else said about this I went to a few online stores to check what they had to say and found this on Trainworld in their product description for the engine...spec

So this special order only part of the description leads me to think that the item may still be planned to be released, but at a later date? Maybe?
I personally have never dealt with a product cancellation before when ordering trains and really don't know what to do in this case as I have paid money down for the engine through my dealer and have been slowly paying for the engine so I could get it right when it was released. Now that this has come up I really don't know where to go from this point.

Does anyone know what I should do in this case?

Stirling, if you have doubts about the status, give MTH a call.  Information on the internet is wildly inaccurate -- not intentionally so (although even that's debatable at times), but simply because information isn't always "updated" properly over time.  I've seen this Trainworld notation a few times, and it's standard protocol for them... i.e., something on backorder and not currently in stock.  As for the "special order" note, I've seen that for MTH items they don't plan to carry as store stock, but will try to get said item(s) from MTH when possible.

Bottom line... the Trainworld website probably needs to be updated to reflect the cancelled status of this MTH item.  But if in doubt, call MTH.

According to Rich Foster this has NOT been cancelled as they have shipped the cars already.

According to Kirstin at MTH they are cancelled. I was sad to see they were cancelled.

This is almost as bad as reading the useless product reviews on websites where consumers are encouraged to "rate" products they buy.  Not that I need anyone else's review to seal the deal for my purchases... I just can't help but shake my head when 5-star reviews are followed by 1-star reviews.     Really.... The product either is a grand-slam or it's a looser.  But it can't be both.

In this case, is it cancelled?  Or isn't it?

Al, I was basically referring to the polar opposite information that is often found on the internet.  The 5-star vs. 1-star review had nothing to do with MTH per se.  It was just an example of what I sometimes see while reading customer reviews on sites like bestbuy.com when folks rate their product purchases.  I never understood how so many products could be rated with both 5-stars (excellent) AND 1-star (poor).

In this case, we have two polar opposite answers from MTH.  One executive saying "no", it's not cancelled.  While another MTH source is saying "yes", it's been cancelled.

Frankly, I can't understand why MTH would cancel a locomotive, if/when the cars are already produced.    If that were truly the case, I'd return the cars to MTH and expect a full refund.

David, I totally agree with you on "ratings". One needs to see the product for themselves and decide whether to commit to purchasing.

I for one will be pleased, if MTH pays attention and re-releases this loco WITH the added prototypical corrections along with the PS3 "quillable" whistle.

With the added $$ to the MSRP, it's important to me that we just don't get "another" re-hash of a previously released loco with only upgraded electronics.

MTH has an opportunity to "set the bar" with this re-issue  and get a lot of people excited about purchasing this improved model.

 Hello Sterling

If this ends up as a "no go" on loco production, I would strongly suggest looking at the CPR Mikes that are still in stock at 3rd Rail.

I have both versions(P2e and P2g) and the detail is outta this world. I know it's not a Royal Hudson, but my motto is "if you think may want one, down the road, get them now while still available.

Scott has done an excellent job on research on his CPR steam and I for one, am pretty happy with the features of all 6 CPR models I have from 3rd Rail.

I'll keep those engines in mind for sure!
I was just wanting to get this one especially because they were making the 2839 in her Southern excursion scheme.
But your steamers look amazing! I really like that model of the 2816 and the selkirk.
