MT-2103LP cab #6099. I believe it's from 94' 95'. It appears to be stuck in neutral. I get ding ding On start up. It will also go into reset. I am using 2 CW-80s. It appears to have been dropped due to all of the shell screw pieces are broken. I did a reset 18 and got the garbled bell. Still won't move. Did the lock out reset an got nothing. Looked around for loose wires and noticed that the battery's negative wire had come loose. (new battery ) I have no clue where this wire goes but I am gonna assume that is why it is stuck in neutral. Instead of start up with a low battery power I believe the loose connection caused the issue. . I need help....

I read alot of posts about this issue and followed all of the prior solutions to no avail. I am assuming I need a new chip And or the bottom board is bad? am I correct on this?
What voltage are you using??? Presuming your battery is Good, "Proto-Sound" will NOT shift out of "Initial Reset" above 10v. These engines start up in "initial reset" NOT neutral.
As stated above, you need to start up with about 8 volts for a minute or so, then it should cycle to forward. I had the same issue, thinking I needed a high voltage to charge the battery first. It turned out as long as the battery was charged already, all I needed to do was keep it under 10 volts to get it started. Good luck!

You may need a post war Lionel transformer with a pure sine wave. However the loose battery wire is not good, Maybe someone can post a pic of were it goes, It'll be close to the red battery connection. Some of my early ps-1s would run without a battery. Not sure about this one though.
You will not have access to bell and/or horn/whistle until y the engine is out of "initial reset."
And as broached what power supply are you using?
I missed that in your original post. Now, many MTH engines do NOT like the CW-80. In fact if you look at any MTH owners/instruction manuals the Lionel CW-80 is NOT listed as an acceptable power supply for their engines.
Have you run this engine before with these CW-80's?
I had a MT-2100LP (20-2100-1) that would ONLY run with a pure sine wave power supply (in my case a KW). It would not run with any "modern" power supply until I had upgraded by QSI back then.
When it comes to resetting Proto 1 locomotives, I've only been able to do it with an MTH Z750 or Z1000. I was never able to reset them using a CW-80.

In my experience, early Protosounds locos will only come out of reset and run if powered by a Z4000 or a postwar loco. CW80's and Z750 or 1000's don't work with early Protosounds locos.
I use CW-80s for all my 9 PS-1 locomotives that range from the 1st version to the last version of PS-1. I also think you may have the voltage too high to leave reset. Make sure you do not turn the voltage above 7 volts before you push the direction button.
crofinger,
Well, the "FIRST" most important thing is to fix the battery wire and make sure the battery is charged up. The engine will never leave reset without the battery making connection with the PS1 board!!!
What "list"? A power supply list?
