I am having some issues with my MTH proto 2.0, 2-8-0 WM. I am using a MTH TIU, wifi unit and an I phone with the advanced app.

I have 3 other engines, that are all seen by the app and run with out issue. They are all proto 3.0, My layout is not that large, only 10 feet by 9, but with several loops. As is recommended, I have a power lock on about every ten feet for even power distribution.

I took the 2-8-0 and placed it on a test track, as soon as I apply power, in conventional mode, it will light up, smoke comes out, but the whistle will start blowing and not stop. I performed a factory reset on it, and the whistle blow stopped.  I tried to add it on the test track, rewiring for DCS but still no luck.  I wired back to conventional mode and ran fun, N-F-N-R. But when I put it back on the main layout and apply full power it will not light up.

I can not find any switches other then the smoke on off. Any help would be very welcome!

Curious, are they set up as insulated blocks? The product number always helps.

1) was everything else disconnected? nothing else on the track? What exactly did you do?

Are you sure it's not in the remote already? Did you press the read button? Maybe it's got the same address as another loco?

2) It should not light up when it detects signal from the TIU. Was the TIU powered then?

No other engines were on the track at the time.

I use the app and not the remote, I removed all of my engines, as I thought it might be an issue with the 3 engine limit on the free app, I did upgrade.

I am using a new TIU that I got last year, with the 24 port terminal block. The TIU was powered up, red light was on.

I placed the 2-8-0 on the test track, I applied power to the Transformer, this powered up the TIU, after 60 seconds I powered on the WIFI unit.

I powered on my iphone, connected to the DCSWIFI network, opened the app, run my trains, add new train, then refresh, and nothing.

I took a look at some other posts and I think I may have my wires wrong. I think I have the red on the outside and the black on the center.  I did not think this was an issue as my 3 other mth 3.0 engines run with out any issues at all.

Well? it's interesting that your layout is backwards and you did not catch that when you set up a test track either.

Another thing that's funny to probably only me, I run 2 rail. So whenever I run a PS2 engine, I have to throw the polarity switch so that it matches the orientation of the engine. When the engine is in 3 rail mode, the polarity switch is defeated.

It doesn't always occur to me to tell posters running three rail to check the polarity that I have to do every time I run them.

All the clues were there.  I missed it.

Problem Solved!!!

Please see the photo for reference.

If you look at the photo you can see my control board.

My issue was 100% the reverse of the polarity. It took a while for me to troubleshoot because I started off my reversing the red and black at 1, the transformer. This did not fix the issue, I thought I was sunk until I revers the red and black at the terminal block supply ports 2! Once I did this the app detected the train and now I am all set.  Thanks a bunch for all of the suggestions.
