I have 4 MTH Railking steamers that will not smoke. Unfortunately I do not have their manuals available. I can since no wind/exhaust coming through their stacks. Each has around 25 drops of new smoke fluid in them. I have searched them all (maybe not well enough!!) for any on-off smoke unit controls. My steamers are as follows.

1- 1st run N&W 0-8-0 #244. There is  vol. control under the tender and a empty on-off opening.

2- N&W Y6b 2-8-8-2 32195 with PS2. Vol. control under tender and empty on-off opening.

3- N&W "J" 4-8-4 #611 No adj. of any kind under tender, only a on-off switch

4- B&O 2-6-0 #946 Vol. adj. only under tender.

These are all railking and run quite well other than smoke. All were bought used over time and never smoked.

Thanks for any help. Maybe I need to remove the tender shells.

For PS-1 steam the smoke switch was always under the engine at the rear of the engine.  Some times there are extra empty holes.  The Smoke switch is label smoke with on - off.

For PS-2 engines the smoke switch is always were the boards are.  For early engines this can be on the engine as often as tender.

For the later PS-2 3V boards most are in tender and the switch may now be a rheostat like the volume pot.  It will be labeled smoke.

Again, the PS-2 may also have empty slots, so you have to look closely.

As Paul said you can find most instructions on the MTH Web.  Go to the service link, then the documents link, then type in model number.  The service site has documents that the main site may not have.  G
