really?  engine should be silent?  hmmm, never even gave that a thought.  Just tried it again, I hadn't even powered up the remote and train was on track and running, doesn't track have to have power in order receive signal from the remote?  then when moving the z-4000 lever back and forts the train will move forward and backward.  and when i look at TIU - only two channels display and both are "variable"  Wanting to run 3 or 4 loops of track I need to make the entire TIU fixed, that is the next challenge. Please allow me a few minutes to figure that out and then do that -

The track receives the DCS signal from the TIU. If I’m running Legacy. I don’t power up the MTH remote and my MTH engines just sit silently. When you power up the layout all DCS engines should be silent and awaiting a command. In order for the TIU to have DCS present on all 4 channels. Fixed One must be powered at all times. Or you need to power the TIU with an auxillary power supply through the port.

It sounds like your trains are just running conventionally and not seeing any signal.
