MTH revenue car boxes

I keep everything with the idea I might be selling that item in the future, and not having the original packaging reduces it's value.  I also find the original packaging is the best for storing items when not in use.  Just my opinion.

I've always kept the boxes for my trains.  My O scale just came out of their original boxes after hibernating for 20 some years.  My G scale went into hibernation in their boxes a couple of years ago when I down sized. Not sure when they will come out again but they are safe in their original packaging.

Luckily I had the room to store them.

I save all of them because eventually 99% of my trains will be sold and the simple fact is my estate will need a box to have them transported somewhere.  Plus it adds value to the item.   Once my layout is completed I'll store the majority of them under the layout on shelves for which I already have the supports installed.  Due to the cost of lumber I'll probably use 4x8 sheets of 2" foam trimmed accordingly to narrow the width a few inches.  Foam is plenty strong enough to hold empty boxes and no one will see them as they'll be blocked by the skirt around the layout.

I keep locomotive and passenger car set boxes, most of the other stuff hits the can.  It's not that I wouldn't like to keep them, it's just that I simply don't have the space for all those boxes!

The price of lumber has fallen 50% since January.  Very few new houses are being built now, and the only real lumber use is by remodelers to fix or upgrade existing houses.   This requires far less lumber.

So, maybe drop by a big box store and check the recent prices.

As for boxes, I have so many projects going on in my life from so many angles (carpentry, legal files, trust administration work, small plumbing and electrical work in the house, all of the grandkids' toys, zero turn mowers, insulation, mechanics' tools, long handled tools, etc.)  that I am "drowning" in "stuff."      So, after keeping my train boxes for a year, and never using them, I pitched them all.      Most of my engines and cars are low end products, that are not worth much now and won't be worth much when I die.  I think the most expensive single purchase I have made in almost 3 years was a steam loco for $225.

I think when it comes to my trains, I have to use a word that is considered shocking and outrageous of this Board.  :-)
