Just pulled my MTH PS3 RK Dreyfuss Hudson, 30-1617-1, off the shelf after more than a year.  Fired it up using DCS.  I needed to do a feature reset to get the lights and sound functions working (typical with this loco, its finicky that way for some reason) , but the smoke unit not so much.  I added fresh smoke fluid so that is not the problem.  I also made sure the wireless drawbar was seated firmly on the engine and tender.  I removed the shell to look for any obvious loose or disconnected wires and found none.  I fired it up again without the shell and it is obvious the smoke fan motor is not working.  It also appears that the heating element is not working since there is not even a hint of vapor coming from the smoke unit.

I've done all I can think of to trouble shoot the problem so far.  It seems odd to me that both the fan motor and the heating element are not functioning.  Suggestions are appreciated on next steps to take with this locomotive...

Hi GGG.  Seems like we're back at it again after getting my two MTH RK Y6Bs working.  Yes, it seems weird to me too that both the smoke fan motor and the heating coils are not working on my Hudson.  The solder connections for both on the smoke unit seem solid.  I did not notice any other wiring anomalies, but I didn't pull apart the maize of bundled wires to really dig deeper.  This one has me stumped for sure.

I would disconnect the smoke unit completely from the board then put 1.5 volt battery n see if smoke fan starts n runs. then test heater resister's are not open with a volt ohm meter. if everything checks out with the smoke unit n fan then has to be in the engine or ps 3 board fet' s that drive smoke motor n heater fet ? i have seen new ps 3 board with defective fet's new !
