MTH Smoke unit gasket(s) installation question | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

I am replacing gaskets on a leaky MTH smoke unit (both the circuit board and pot to fan housing) and was wondering if people have been installing them "dry" (gasket only) or adding a little RTV or other adhesive type material to get a better seal? See attached photo of gaskets. Thanks!

I put them in dry. I suppose a little RTV wouldn't hurt?

Thanks, I put the blue circuit board one in dry and added a thin layer of RTV on both sides of the pot to fan unit one (red) since it was pretty stiff and figured it might not seal without a little help. The old MTH one was more of a foam material for the pot gasket. I'm letting it dry and I'll report the results.

I do them dry, and that's the way the factory does them as well. You don't need "goop" to make them work.

Very few gaskets require the use of a sealer. That's why it's called a gasket.
