I have a 2-8-4 NKP #769 Berkshire MTH wit ha muffled sound. I have turned up volumes and studied all settings, but cannot increase volume. Can hear the sound, but soft. Any suggestions, I run DCS

Is it a proto 2? You might have to change the speaker. I opened one of mine and the speaker had began flaking. I replaced it and the sound works better.
Brooklyn Corey is spot on. Check the speaker, especially if it is a PS1 (QSI sticker). Old MTH speakers are well known for this problem.

Not PS-1, but the PS-2 5V systems with 16 ohm Star speaker. Occasionally 3V with 4 ohm star. G

Open it up and check the speaker. It may have began flaking. If so disconnect and remove it. Replace it with a new speaker. It might sound complicated, but it’s not hard. I’ve only been in this hobby since February and I’ve done it. The flakes can mess up your board.
