MTH Super 381 or MTH Lionel Brute

With the recent news that MTH is going to stop producing the Lionel Corporate Tinplate and Standard gauge trains I thought I would purchase one of their biggest and best trains. That being said I purchased a set of the Brown Showroom Passenger Cars which were built to go with the Big Brute. I have heard some good and bad things about the Brute so I would like your opinion on which engine you would purchase to go with the Showroom cars.... The Super 381 or the Brute? Also does anyone know how many Brutes were produced compared to the Super 381?
