The maintenance instructions tell me to remove the cab to gain access to the 2 motors for lubrication. My problem: I see no way to remove the 2 ends to get to the 2 motors! Suggestions solicited....

Well, it’s a crocodile, alligators are only found in North America.
In the picture, there are six screws holding each side of the cab assembly together. The motors are permanently sealed, so there is nothing to lubricate there. In order to lube the drive gears, you would have pull the motors - unless there is a screw on the bottom that says “grease”. This would allow you to inject grease without taking everything apart. If you’re okay with pulling the motors, go ahead otherwise, I would just add a drop of oil on the points shown in the diagram and leave it at that.
Remember, use oil and grease sparingly.
There are instructions that come with the engine in German and English that explain these procedures.

It's usally called a Krokodil or Krok in the German speaking areas
I just call them cool
With pantagraphs AND siderod action... what more could you want?
The instructions DO NOT "explain" the procedure....at least not in sufficient detail for a bozo like me!
Is there an online link lo the instructions so someone could help clarify them?
Or list your hold ups, the text your hung up on, and pictures. It's rare than someone here can't figure things out depite not owning an item.
Besides, for my tastes, there aren't enough Krok pictures here as is
Phil, following is a link to the MTH instructions for this locomotive:
https://mthtrains.com/sites/de...ction/20dl17452i.pdf
On page 42 they show the bottom of the locomotive, indicating the location of the body and motor screws. If you are as inexperienced as you say, I would not start disassembling the body and motor. Just add a tiny drop of oil to each axle point and the bushing between the drive wheels and the gear body, as well as a dot to each end of the pickup roller. As long as the locomotive is operating smoothly and quietly, leave it alone.
