I have the same experience.
I look at the MTH website often. It is always slow. Be patient.

The Product Locator is what has always been slow for me. That part looks to be hosted on a dedicated server with not much horsepower. Everything else seems to run okay.
Seems to be slower once MTH "closed" it's doors...
For me the home page comes up 90% of the time just fine. It’s any function after that. To call it slow would be a step up than what it is. The search function is the worst. It usually takes a few minutes to find whatever it is you’re searching for.
The amount of data and also the amount of filters cause a website to take more time finding things You can find anything MTH ever made in a number of different ways and get the full description You can search on road numbers Try searching Lionel's website for an item made in 1999 by the road number on it

I search from my browser by entering "MTH Trains (railroad name) (road number)." That seems to find the product number and listing almost every time.

It is WAY slower since MTH went through their transition. I suspect the problem is very simple, the new "company" doesn't pay for the server capability that they used to have. They have clearly moved their website to a much slower service and it shows.
You can do a search on Google using the SITE: feature and find stuff faster on slow websites.
It has always been slow, but it has gotten worse these last few months. Especially searching the shipping schedule page only works about 70% of the time for me. Takes 5 minutes or longer for pages to load.

Thanks GRJ. You can also do the same with DuckDuckGo.Com and not be tracked. Example:
