Is using my old Lionel CTC lockon an appropriate way to hook up my MTH 1000 transformer to my three rail O Gauge tubular track, or is there a better solution? I'll be running an MTH Berkshire 2-8-4 locomotive.
I'm not sure of what you are asking me. I'm totally new at this so I'm not familiar with "mth ps 1 ps 2 or [s 3 engines!" I will be running only a single engine, the MTH Berkshire 2-8-4 on a single circular track that runs the perimeter of my room, if that helps you help me in any way.
The banana jacks on the controller connect to the track. I usually connect red to the center rail and black to the outside rails, ie Black to #2 on the lockon, Red to #1 on the lockon.
For my Christmas Loop, I used used a 3' length of standard zip-cord, although I'm sure that you get many opinions as to whether that is proper.
If your engine has command control, it will run as conventional.
The real question here is the locomotive. Proto 1 engines run conventional meaning the z1000 will be its power source and way running the train. Proto 2.0 and Proto 3.0 engines can be used this way also but are really meant to be operated using the wireless DCS handheld remote. Any MTH engine can be run with the transformer you have there. Just keep in mind the Proto 2 and 3 engines have features can not control with your current set up. Hope this helps.
