We will be in the Cary/Raleigh area March 15 and 16. Can anyone recommend a must see or do thing? Thanks

What are your interests other than the hobby? I was there for 5 years for my graduate degree from '05-09.
Tom's Train Station is a pretty good LHS (http://www.tomstrainstation.com/)
I was thinking of anything that would be on your must see list, not necessarily what we might think would be interesting. thanks
If you're into art, the NC Museum of Art has a pretty nice collection, and travel exhibits frequent it as well.
Umstead State Park has nice trails to run/walk/hike and has easy access.
The Carolina Hurricanes call Raleigh home, if you're into hockey.
A lot of good golf courses too.
Great restaurants include: The Pit, Lilly's Pizza (a must go!), Jibarra, Mitch's Tavern (on NCSU campus where a scene from Bull Durham was filmed), Irregardless Cafe
Watering holes: Flying Saucer (100s of brews on tap), Big Boss Brewery, Tylers Taproom (good menu too)
Yes, Tom's Train station is a definite "should see."
And if you are an Andy Griffith/Mayberry fan, there is a statue of him and Opie in Pullen Park - sort of the center of good-feel American TV heritage, in a way.
The NC Art Museum is really, really nice.
Todd's Train Station in Wendell (20 minutes to the east of Raleigh) is something not to be missed - Charles Kuralt would have loved it. Hours are unusual - used to be 1 PM to 8 PM - I'd check first. Bring money - it's impossible to leave without finding something you haven't seen before and have been looking for for years. And be tremendously respectful to the lady behind the counter: I assure you she knows more about toy trains than everybody else you have ever met put together.
Several nice museums in downtown Raleigh.

The Barbeque Lodge in Raleigh - Eastern NC style barbeque
Yates Mill historic park just south of Raleigh
New Bass Pro in Cary.
