Shades of real world issues . . . this is no big deal but I thought it worth remarking as it works so well and cheap!.  As in the real world, converting ex-soldiers to mufti is a good, quick way of getting top quality civilian workers!

I recently acquired a bunch of plastic 1:48 soldiers and airmen, altogether more than a dozen in several missile/rocket/military vehicle kits it took less only a minute or two to file down the helmet into a cap and cut away military equipment so I had a civilian.

Good things about military figures from Tamiyua, Revell, and similar kits, is that they are often found cheap, and that Plastruk and testors cement really holds to their plastic: note I cut the arm and repositioned it on the figure below.  Sometimes Lionel and other figures are hard to glue well because of the material they are made of.

This took almost not time to create a really nice looking figure, cut and glued in position I needed (see my addition this morning in the vignettes thread).

That's a great use of products that are out there and readily available with minor mods can be repurposed.

It is also great that you are supporting the national effort to employ veterans and wounded warriors from OEF/OIF as small they are. As an OGR sponsor you are setting the example that the leading manufactures could do more of then just offering discounts.

I concur. However I am not sure I am comfortable with wounding them more just to fit them into the civilian workforce...of course I don't want civilians running around with automatic weapons in their hands or anything.

I painted several of the Tamaiya WW2 GI figures for use on the layout, but once I got some dedicated "O scale" civilian figures, I realized they were really too small. Now I am trying to find a place more into the background for them. Such a shame because I really wanted them near the front of the layout hovering over a card game...

Aw, come on, why not? Here I am, after my discharge, doing exactly that!

At my company we've hired a number of veterans and you have to wonder about people who don't make it a priority, why don't they?  Putting aside the obligation I see to help people who took time to serve their country by making their return to civilian life as easy as possible, when you hire a vet you get a person who has learned to work as part of a team with good basic skills, and probably some real experience.  We make it a priority to look at veterans - its just good business, and to quote Wilford Brimley, its the right thing to do.
