I just got this off da bay. I did a tear down today to see what all is missing, and I noticed a few interesting things. The steam chest is part number 1662/ But is is different from the steamchest that I swapped out (due to zinc pest) on my 1662,m and the one Dennis Holler sent me, both numbered 1662. The one (and the replacement chest from 1662 both have the crosshead guides riveted on, while the one that came with 1656 is screwed on. I supposed these could have been changed. The original chest on my 1662 has slots in the guides, while the one from Dennis and the one with 1656 are solid.

And 1656 has nickel tires on one side, but none on the other. I measured the rims, and both sides are the same size (measured on the inside of the nickel tires, and one of the tireless drives has plenty of marks on it, so I suppose the tires were pryed off, or the two drivers were swapped)

The steamchest on 1656 was held on with none factory screws, so it may not be the original chest. But at least the motor runs!

Let me look, I know I have some thin nickel rims from crumbled prewar drivers, not sure if they would fit... but I keep the rims...   not sure on the steam chest, probably a couple of variations.  The postwar 1665 was basically a 1662 with postwar couplers.  It also had the single reduction motor like the prewar engine's.  The 1656 had the double reduction motor and I though nickel rims.  There had also been a front coupler and mount on da bay for a while.  There are a couple of slope diecast tenders on there as well.

Tom the motor does run.

Dennis the stripped out motor that came with my 1615 project has all four nickel rim drivers in GC.

and thanks for the couple link. When I did the 1615 project I found all the missing parts listed on ebay, then compared the cost to Jeff Kane, and he is either close or even less on most stuff, and you only pay shipping once with him. But I do find bargains on da bay.

Let me know about a pick up.

here's one of the seller's pics. forgot to take one before I tore it down.

Think you guys are right, maybe no nickel rims on those motors.  I was thinking I had seen one before.  I checked one I had, no rims on it either.  I also checked the rims from some crumbled prewar wheels and those rims are a touch larger, so I don't think I can help on those rims unfortunately.  The prewar motors (1662) jump over 022 switches, probably because the gear teeth are close to the edge of the wheel,  On those later motors like you have (1656) the teeth are not so close to the edge, a result of the double reduction.  This may keep that motor from jumping on the 022 switches.  Then again, you use a lot of 027 switches so you may not see any problem either way which is great!!.

Found the pick up, you may still need to get some new shoes for it, and I'll send the E unit and motor parts.  It all came from a crumbled frame (prewar I think so armature gear may be different from that postwar motor).  Let me see what other junk I can find ..... Maybe you should put a 1666 motor in it
