1950 also. 1475WS. 2046 Loco with whistle tender, log dump car, coal dump car,  operating cattle car, non-operating milk car, wrecking car, 1033 transformer and track. I was a month shy of three years old. Purchased for me by my Uncle at Madison Hardware. Still have it and run it on a regular basis.

Ah.....my first set as well. Got it when I was 3, I think. It's presently running under my Xmas tree. That 2035 is one of the silkiest running engines I have. And it runs better than when it was new.   Reason.....when I got back into my trains, I thought I would just be getting my old set running again and use if for Xmas (boy, did that goal fall to the wayside quickly). Anyway, I took that engine apart, cleaned it, replaced the brushes and springs and smoke element and as I was reassembling, I noticed that the armature plate on the back side of the motor was not in correct position. The screws were in kind of catty corner. I backed them out and put it in correctly. So.....that position had to have been putting pressure on the side of the armature shaft and creating undue friction. Putting it in correctly had to be freeing up the mechanism to run as smoothly as possible. Who knew?

My first train set would have been a 1469WS except that it came with a 2025 not a 2035.  Because of this I always thought it must have been an uncatalogued set.  Now, I’m wondering if Lionel substituted a non Magna Traction loco due to Korean War restrictions?  Does anyone have any knowledge of this?  My trains had all of their individual boxes, however, I don’t remember having a set box.
