My grandparents bought my cousin and I these sets many years ago.  A starter set that was a Lionel promotion with Quaker Oats.

A whopping $11.95 along with a couple Quaker Oats boxtops.

I still have everything but the yellow car. Is the car available somewhere? And how was it held to the flatbed?

Thanks!!

Jeff, I don't know if this will work but I will try it.  A pdf file listing old Lionel promotional sets.  Scroll down and there is the Quaker Oats set you have.  It looks like car is held on by a rubber band.  I don't know if the yellow automobile with your set is like the other one's Lionel produced for their auto-carrier car but I know you can still find those in various colors.

That's really awesome that you still have the original set.  I have pretty much nothing from my childhood train wise. I have had to seek out the ones I remember paying with and buy where I can. It is so much sweeter to have the actual one you played with.

My hunch tells me if you kept it this nice for the first fifty years the second fifty years should find it still alive and well showing up under future generations Christmas trees..and the fifty years after that.
