the powered B unit has apparently died. when on the tracks when i power up, i get a short. remove it and short goes away. replace on the track, no short, but will not respond. i assume there is naught i can do other than contact lionel. any thoughts/suggestions?

You've probably already done this, but it is always a good idea to look for any metalic debris that your locomotive may have picked up that could be causing a short.
i did. couldn't see anything.
consist was right where it finished the previous run and nothing was done to it. odd
well, this shouldn't have worked. put it back on the tracks. no short. reprogrammed ID and, lo and behold, it works. don't understand this at all, but it is fine now. guess there are something things you just have to do regardless of the details of the problem.
I'm happy to hear that it's working OK now. Perhaps the 'short' confused the settings somewhat.
i agree, but what happened to the short???
i did take the shell off and press everything down (although nothing appeared loose).
A wire harness connector could have come loose during shipping and your taking it apart pressing the connectors back in tight may have solved your problem. Although if something came loose it should just quit running and act like it got no power rather then short out.
Keep a watch on that engine as it may act up again.

Lee is correct. Next time you see the problem, look at the hot wire that passes through the truck from the rollers. I have seen this many times. One day you are OK then not. Let us know if you (when) see the short again and we can cover what needs to be done.
