When I was in the second grade I was seriously into maps - I loved everything about them - the colors, intricacy, details, and the knowledge they held. My uncle drove for ATSF, and I thought the SF "Map" cars were the greatest thing ever - maps on trains. Could anything be better?
I ordered two of the five-car sets from the 2011 catalog. Lionel shipped them a week or so ago and I picked them up Monday afternoon. Also, I found a three-car set from the 2012 catalog (Lionel shipped both products at the same time) on Klein's website and snapped that up. In spite of my grandchildren's train project and the mess in my trainroom I had to clean off enough track to assemble and run this puppy this morning!
Here is a short video of my new, favorite train - thirteen map-slogan cars and a caboose pulled by Legacy SF Northern 3759 - all scale, all Lionel, all map cars. Could anything be better?
