First, the backstory:

My wife and I went on a Route 66 adventure in 2017. We visited family in Oklahoma I hadn't seen in years. While executing a bottle of JD Single Barrel, the subject of toy trains came up. My cousin says in his Okie drawal "I got some ole Lionel trains, wanna see um?" So we go upstairs to his home office, he enters a walk-in closet and comes out with this:

So after five years we settled on a price for it to be mine. It was worth the 1500 mile round trip because the condition of the set is excellent, and there was no way I would let him mail it to me. I haven't been to York in years, but this more than makes up for that.

The rest of the booty:

This set was purchased new in 1956 at Mulraney's House of Trains, now known as Trainland in Lynbrook, NY. I am the third owner in the same family. I am very grateful for this blessing!

I would like to thank everyone for your kind responses.

After the set gets a good dust-off and lubrication, It will be displayed on a shelf just below the wife's 2253w set in our display cabinet under glass doors. A nice comparison between the green and tuscan schemes.

The only downside is the boxes are all fragile and easy to break so I touch them the least I can. The set box is in better shape.

Yes, when they were first shown to me I almost fell off the chair! First time I had ever seen The Congressional in real life all at the same time. I was amazed.

Thanks again!

There ya go!

I always wondered how to 'break the ice' in conversation in order to get around to the more important topics!...especially with 'distant' (pun permitted) relatives!

And...VERY impressed you repeated the long drive to pick up this treasure.  Nice way to grow closer to far-flung family!

Y'all have an especially happy, healthy holiday season.   Enjoy!
