I usually don't look for trains in the local classified ads or on Craigslist nowadays. However, I have some great employees that do check and know about my train hobby. I was thrilled when they told me about a local Craigslist ad for Old Lionel Trains. I had no idea if they were still available as there are several other hobbyists in the area. I sent him an email saying his price was very fair (It was) and I could be by within the hour with cash in hand. He called me back promptly. He said I was the first to to contact him and I told him I would buy at his asking price. There was much more than I expected. This is "The find!" I'm going to have fun going though everything. Some goodies and some real dogs (Repainted 2020,broken operating cars). Still loads of fun!
The best items are the 282 gantry crane and the red top variation of the 455 oil derrick. The Noma Talking station is cool and in the original box. Those are the "keepers" I'm sure the mechanicals are frozen and warped. The other locomotives are a pair of UP 2023's,a 623 switcher and a MPC 8206.
UPDATE!!!
The fellow called back this morning to tell me he found the "Missing" engine I asked him about last night (The NP Geep for the 1976 Service Station set) and FOUR Aluminum "Silver Dawn series"passenger cars! All in the boxes with the inserts. I paid him a fair price for these and told him I think there may now be another "missing" engine, unless these were purchased separately, there may be a set of F3 diesels that usually pulled these cars.He said he remembered a large set of gray diesels when he was a kid. (These belonged to his Dad).I'm thinking NYC 2344's. I sure hope he calls back!
