Video to follow soon but right now got my VL BB from Imperial Trains.  By the time we, Forum member Carp and I, arrived they were lubed and being checked out.  After some run time, they were packaged back up and to boot we got an extra bottle of smoke fluid.  As Regis said, "You'll need this."  And a Lionel Mug too!  This is why I deal with Imperial.  Great Service.  They even had me get my car and pull up to the curb and put mine and Carp's Big Boy in the car for us.  I can't thank them enough.

Can I please forward this to my LHS?

I didn't order a VL BB, but I have had to load all my own orders when they come in. Sometimes even in foul weather.

Enjoy running (and looking at) your new VL BB, they look very nice. Looks like Lionel did a great job on them.

Some observations thus far...

  • My layout is not conducive to this engine. Looks like some O99 is needed for my next layout.
  • The smoke units take a bit to get going. But once they go they work great.
  • Sounds are awesome.
  • Gimmicky as the coal load is, still way cool. I can't see anyone having an issue seeing it deplete. Mine is noticeable fairly quick
  • I'm definitely glad I bought it. Someday I hope I have a layout worthy of it.

Great to hear Marty!

Enjoy this awesome locomotive!

Atlas-O makes O-99 track, which is 99" diameter -- a bit broader than the Big Boy's O-72 minimum.  Regardless, even at that... the front boiler overhang will still be significant.  A member recently posted that even on a club layout with 6-foot RADIUS curves, there was noticeable overhang.  Sheesh!!!

Just comes with the territory, I guess.

Yea mine sat In buffalo for a few days cause of the holiday. Main reason I like fedex I got something from georgia 2 days earlier then ups and it was twice the distance.

Same here.  Mine arrived in PHX (I live in Mesa.) early Saturday morning.  If I hadn't already made plans to go to Tucson with family I would of called UPS and asked to pick it up.  But in PHX it'll stay until Tuesday when it's scheduled to be delivered.  Would it of killed them to bring it early like FedEx and USPS do?

Marty:  Congrats on the Big Boy!!!  I hope it provides you years and years of enjoyment.

Have you (or anyone else) ever taken a step back at a "pickup" moment like this and said..."Wow.....there's over four grand of Lionel Trains in my car!!"?

Humbling and somewhat satisfying at the same time, me thinks.
