On several occasions when I have moved the switch stand on a Fastrack switch to the opposite side, a 1.5 in. wire with a diameter of 0.027 in. shows up on my work bench. It must be falling out of the switch when I remove the switch stand, but I can't figure out where it would go and the switches seem to work fine after I finish changing the switch stand. Does anyone know what the wire is for and if I should try and reinstall it somehow?

It's a lantern control rod (#G10 2045 0590). Provides tension on lantern tower And has no ill affect on switch action if not used! Customer serv.-replacement parts punch-in switch part#,will bring up blow-up pictures of inner workings>
Its the "lantern control rod", it is merely there for asthetic purposes, it doesn't actually control anything.
At the base of the lantern stand there is a tiny hole, across from it right below the outside rail is another hole.
Insert one end into one hole and you can gently bend/coax it into the other.
