Does anyone know where I can get one original 158 dummy head light.
The reproduction head light has a shallow draw or bowl from the original, the finish does not matter as I will be getting a nickel plating kit from Micromart.

I do not have the original headlight, but thought I would mention that we now have replacement roofs in stock for the 150-158 series locos. Harry
Thanks for the information on the 150 - 158 roofs. This is great loco has a bent/dented roof. Question: does the roof just slides on and does it get soldered in place?
Try Olsen. He has just about every Lionel part I have ever needed, and then some.
Thank You El Classisco, already checked with Olsen and nothing is listed for the 150 loco. Picked up two re-pros but they are not the same. This will be one of the items on my wish list when I go to the train meets. Once I have this part I will start working on it. Already picked up the rubber stamps and Pick-up for the loco.
Ron, Your best bet would be to contact J.L. Mania, in Freehold, N.J., who can do custom work. http://jlmtrains.com/
If he can't help you, you will have to hopefully find a junker, at a decent price, with what you need. Check out J. L. Mania's website, and take a tour through the site, and you will be amazed at his work.
Thank you Teledoc, I buy all my rubber stamps from jlmtrains as it is the best way to letter prewar trains. I will follow up with them on a original 158 dummy headlight.
Worst comes to worst, you could always either A), work with the repros you have, B), Fabricate a new one, or C), mount a working headlight on the engine instead of a dummy, as I know for certain Olsen has those.
Thank you for the ideas El Classico, i am trying to keep it as original as I can so the dummies are needed. The re-pro dummy headlights will be my plan B as many folks do not know that there is a difference. For me part of the magic is the hunt for the original part.
Ron, As you are apparently aware, and others may not know it, but the 158 is the ONLY loco that uses the Dummy headlight, and no other Lionel electric uses that part. It is preferable to keep it original, and not to convert it to an operating headlight. That is the unique appeal to this loco, and not to alter it!
It would take a lot of researching to see if a similar dummy headlight was used on a competitive manufacturer, like Ives, Dorfan, etc. I seriously doubt it.
Teledoc, Good point.
Plan to keep it original as I do not have 158 for my collection.
Since these were a period entry level loco, they were used and abused and probably junked out years ago (not that many left and if so some were probably upgraded to a working headlight.
The 158's do not come up for sale that much.
I already have two re-pros on the dummy headlight (Last pair that Henning's had) and one original (came with loco) just looking for one original headlight.

The replacement roofs are soldered on. Harry
