Hey Guys,

I am looking on the Bay at a Williams by Bachmann 20096 Erie 2032 FA-2 O-27 set.   It is the powered unit and the dummy.  It is used.  ( I like these units better than the older Lionel equivalent, because the roller assemblies are far apart.)

One of the pictures shows the underside of the Bachman units, including the roller assemblies.

I note that the roller assemblies on the right hand side of the picture are shiny metal, looking almost new, but those on the left hand side of the picture are a mottled metal color, darker and quite different.

Is this normal?   Is this zinc pest or something?    Any ideas?

Mario's has these sets NIB on sale at a very nice price, but understandably higher than this used set.  Don't know whether to bite the bullet and pay the higher price for a NIB.  (I would have to hide it until Christmas, and that is a LONG way off!)

Also, a question for anybody that may have one of these sets.   Both the powered and dummy units have speakers on the underside.   Is one speaker for the horn, and the other for a bell or something?   I think these are Proto Sound II.

Thanks for all comments.

Color renditions on computer screens are often nowhere near accurate.  I can sit here and bring up a photo on my IMac using Firefox and then the same photo using Safari and get different color renditions.  For a third one all I have to do is bring up the same photo on my wife's MacBook Pro 8 feet away, and I'll get another one.

As to zinc pest: to the best of my knowledge it is only present in die cast and not in solid steel (rollers),or, Manny, have you been reading something i may have missed here?
