If there is a specific reset code for the R2LC, any specific maintenance instructions and part numbers for bulbs, tires etc... G

Gunrunner is right, the manual is generic Lionel stuff. I have the C&O Allegheny
by K-Line(K3715-1601s). It shows TMCC programing stuff and lubing the side
rods. No parts break-down. I can scan it, if you like. Let me know

I'd like a copy of that manual if you are scanning it Joe. If it details any mechanical parts, that might be useful. The K-Line manuals I have for other stuff are pretty generic, some of them don't even mention what locomotive they're for!
I also have the C&O Allegheny. I actually bought it in the forum stripped of locomotive electronics. I put an ERR Cruise Commander in it, and a fan driven smoke unit. I was able to interface to the existing RailSounds boards that were still in the tender, it turned out to be a nice little unit.

My goodness, no wonder there was a lawsuit!!
Ross and Joe thank you. The unit I had was not smoking and the rear tender light was not working. So apart it came. The smoke unit wick was burned but it still wasn't running the fan except sporadically. So I tested all the components and they worked fine individually. One thing I did was open the gasket hole for the fan intake. It was interesting in the PCB hole is big, but the gasket hole was extremely small almost like an orifice. I opened it an bench tested fine. Put it in the engine and it wasn't working again, but I noticed the amp were pulsing. So I guessed the R2LC slipped into a diesel mode and it was acting like a strobe. Went back to the TMCC layout and reprogrammed it to steam and that fixed it. Smokes really well now, and the tender light was just a bulb. G
I opened up all my K-Line smoke unit gaskets, just take them out and use my paper punch to make a larger hole. I also wondered why the tiny hole in the gasket.
I question all the advice to enlarge the intake ports. I compared a slew of MTH units of various vintages and some of them also have small intake holes, yet the smoke extremely well. The impeller can certainly move air and depending on the unit, there is space at the bottom where the fan motor mounts beside the hole at the top.
What I liked about this unit was the larger opening at the exhaust end. The resistor sits under the hole, and deep into the flat wick which keeps the fan outlet port clear, yet has the element embedded in the wick. Nice clean flow of air over the element and out the stack.
So here is a knock off of the Lionel 27ohm track powered fan unit that works great. Real reason I opened the intake gasket was the swelling that bulged inward towards the impeller. Wasn't sure that was my issue, until I saw the pulsing current. Next time I have it open I may drop a small hole washer over the intake and see if it effect the smoke output. G
I can say that punching out the gasket in the K-Line units I have helped the smoke production significantly, so it's not a bad idea.
I also noticed that the gasket was warped a bit, that's one reason I figured it made sense to cut it away. I nibble them away so they just cover the edges, that way they can't hit the fan and stop up the works.

I have both the K-Line #1601 Allegheny and #4015 Big Boy and the manuals are the exact same document, so yes, generic manuals. As for a pulsing fan unit, both of mine do that in neutral in conventional mode. If that is where you are getting it, that was by design. If you are getting pulsing when in command or in motion, then there is a problem.
If that is the case I think your R2LC is programmed wrong. I Reprogrammed mine to a Steam engine #4. and the fan and unit run continuously in conventional or command. Pulsing is when the R2LC is programmed as a diesel with MARS light. Since smoke and mars would be same pin out. G
They have both been programed to #4. They pulse only in neutral only in conventional, the rest of the time the fan is constant on. This was to keep them from filling the room with smoke when sitting still.

Interesting, I will have to look at that, but that means Lionel added PWM to the smoke output, which I did not think was the case. At least not with older smoke units with out smart logic. G
