Its that time of year to venture into the unknown. I am in the process of restoring several Lionel 2037 and Lionel 2026 engines. The first two projects, both Lionel 2037 have gone smoothly, I converted the smoke units to liquid. man do they smoke. The next engine is the Lionel 2026, the early style with the more complex looking valve gear assembly. While the e-units worked perfectly on the first two engine, this one does not. It initally worked when I tested it after I took it off the motor (putting one clip on the e unit terminal and then touching frame with the other clip). After a few tries, it stopped working, so I have disassembled the e unit, and looking at everything.
My question, is there a preferred way to test the coil to see if it is still good? It may by just a wire broke off that connected to the frame or terminal.
Thanks in advance for your help.
