So I took my N6b caboose apart to install Kadee couplers, while I was in there I decided to lower it as it rides too high.  When I was done drilling out the top hats for the truck mounts, I noticed a small compression spring on the bench with a very small U shaped casting in the end.   Can anybody help me figure out where this came from ????  Is it part of the Operating Signalman linkage.   Tried going to MTH web site and parts locator, and then the document site... all to no avail.  Here's photo of the spring.

Obviously to get the trucks out of the frame everything had to be taken off the plastic frame, PC board, operating mechanism, arm which moves the Signalman/Brakeman.

Thanks for replying,  I did check the shoes for spring tension and the pick up roller...  Finally determined it must have been one of the return springs in the claw coupler assembly that I cut off with a dremel wheel to make room for the Kadees.  Anyway it's 99% back together and working great !   Have to go in tomorrow and install the screws holding the body to the frame and get it to sit up in there good and snug.

Not a fun car to disassemble !

Well,  around 1:00 AM last night, I went back downstairs and installed the body mounting screws to pull the caboose body all the way down on the frame,  "nothing wrong with me" !    Thanks Danr - the weathering is acrylic washes and pan pastel powders.  Glad I sealed it with Testor's dullcoat, or I would have made a mess of it with all the handling to make the kadee and lowering modifications.   Yes Mike it's a short stubby caboose to begin with so the Kadee's make a huge difference.

Here's some final photos that I took this morning.  The first photo is the before with the stock Claw Couplers
