Last week i received my delivery of the Lionel 21" Amtrak set from Stouts April 29th Auction. Unfortunately the 4 pack was damaged in transit. Specifically the Dome car took a hit with a smashed dome and a seat missing. I verified with the on line auction advertisement there was no mention of damage to the dome car. While Im not worried about the seat missing, its the broken dome that ruins the car. I tried contaction Lionel to see if they have an extra dome. Both the web and an e-mail stated they have no such part.

Any suggestions on where to get a dome?20210524_10165720210524_101703

Its poor packaging that does that. The dome rests against the seam of the plastic clamshell. When the box takes a shot, any force is transferred directly into the thin plastic dome. The bubble in the clamshell needs to be taller so any impacts are to the roof of the shell, rather than the dome. I had a UP one arrive cracked in the box from a dealer. It was cracked directly along the parting line of the clamshell. Lionel has no parts for these cars, which is amazing, considering how many of them had to be returned to Lionel for spelling mistakes and other decorating issues over time.

My suggestion would be to see if you can get a Budd dome from Atlas.

If no luck, have Stout submit a damage claim to UPS.

Atlas is out of Budd domes as a separate sale parts item and won't be getting any more unless they do another run of the CZ cars or something similar according to Bill, the O scale parts guy at Atlas.

Check eBay for brass O scale dome components.

Hate to see that; I know from personal experience how difficult it can be to find parts.

PS:  Crazy idea:  research LIONEL's website for other cars with the same dome and check with N. Lima Trainworks to see if they have a shell of such a car.  Buy the  shell and  cannibalize it for the dome.
