"HONGZ" stands for HO scale, N scale, G scale, and Z scale.

Post your non-O scale stuff here!

From what I've read on other fora, you probably will run into multiple problems including wheels bouncing over every fake spike (because the "old" flange sizes are considered pizza cutters today) and through turnouts/switches for various reasons (picking points, narrow rail guards, etc.).  I would suggest using nothing less than Code 100 rail, and even that might not work.

As much as I like the look of code 83 track and it has become the current "standard" in HO these days, I have to agree that code 100 is more appropriate for older equipment.  I find the Mantua and the Athearn trains aren't the worst offenders, however that era of Rivarossi has flanges that would make some of the 3 Rail O pizza cutters look almost scale!

My high school HO layout was 24'x16' and all Atlas code100 and it performed very well with all types of HO trains some of which were prewar HO.  This was in the 1980's and 1990's when Code 83 just came onto the market and was very expensive.

Funny how times change because I would like to use code 100 rail on some of the sidings for my next O scale layout.

Thanks Jonathan I also ran some AHM on code 100,I think that's the way to go...joe

Hmm...

I have used Unitrack, Atlas and Micro Engineering code 83 with pretty much everything:

AHM/Rivarossi, Kato, Atlas (both Kato and earlier Roco built), Tyco/Mantua, brass (various makes), Stewart, Life-Like, etc...

...and have not encountered any issues with any of these brands. (I might add this also includes the very large-flanged European stuff (Roco, Lilliput, etc.) I have as well.)

Code 70 is way more unforgiving (with some of the European-made stuff stuff), but 83 seems to work just fine...and I think it looks much better than code 100.

...but that's just me.
