About 1955, I recieved my first train set. It is a Lionel 027 set that I still have. I think it was a low-end set, and probably pretty common. However, I have never seen another set just like it on Ebay, or anywhere else. I do not have any of the original boxes.

 Here is a description:

Lionel 0-4-0 steam switcher with sloped tender,(no whistle sound/no smoke unit).

Red, NYC gondola with 3 or 4 wooden 55 gal drums

Steam crane with hand crank. body grey and frame black

Red, DL&W work caboose/crane tender

Small oval of track

Small transformer with a single control lever on top.

This was most likely purchased from a Bennett Brothers "Blue Book" catalog. They were out of NYC.

Anyone have a guess as to a set number or set name??

Currently it is stored in a closet, but I can dig it out to get car numbers if needed.

Thanks,

Jeff

The all red 6119, like mowingman is referring to, is the correct caboose for this set.

But with Lionel.......anything is possible!

For all we know, the original caboose may have been damaged and a different one substituted to "complete" that set in the photo.
