Posted last week my new original version TIU I purchased in 2007 was tripping the transformer breaker(just now building a layout & trying to get familiar w/items I've purchased thru the years).  Sent TIU last week for repair, surprisingly quick turn around by MTH, received it back today repaired.  Hooked up Z4000 right handle output to TIU fixed Input #1(red to red, black to black) and TIU Fixed Output #1 to track(red to middle rail, black to outer rail). Turn power on to 18-20 volts, no power to tracks??        Hooked transformer to TIU Fixed #2 etc, have power to track, system will not accept PS2 engine sitting on tracks? TIU red light on, has one blink, & is showing in remote.  MTH upgraded sw to V5.0     I just received Barry's 3rd edition of THE DCS COMPANION and so far have not been able to determine the problem.  I'm new and learning both DCS & LEGACY.   What am I doing wrong??

You must now upgrade your remote(s) to version 5.0 software.  But that should not affect power through Fixed circuits.

Does the Z4000 meters show voltage readings, and is there any amperage reading?

If you are not applying power to fixed 1, and are not powering the TIU's innards through the AUX port, you will not get any DCS signal on Fixed 2.

Yikes!!!  I guess the question is.....is  the tiu still   bad order  or no power coming from the z-4000.  Do you have  someway of testing voltage? volt meter / light bulb?

Yes AS JRJ pointed out  the tiu need a power supply to turn on(function) ... Power to fixed 1 or an aux power supply must always  be used. Even though fixed 2 shows power there will be no dcs signal, It's a straight through connection.

"THERE IS NO POWER TO TRACK FROM  FIXED OUTPUT #1.   HAD ENGINE ON TRACK TO RUN, NO POWER TO ENGINE THERFORE WHEN TRYING TO FIND ENGINE IT COULD NOT BE FOUND.  I DO HAVE WAY TO CHECK POWER, BUT IM SURE NO POWER OUT OF FIXED1."

It is possible, but highly improbable, that the fuse for FIXED 1 has gotten dislodged or broken in shipment.

"NO FUSES IN THIS TIU.   IT IS ONE OF THE FIRST TIUs & DOES NOT HAVE FUSE(s).

It is possible for a Z4000 voltmeter to show voltage although no voltage is present at the Z4000 output terminal.  Check with a voltmeter or 18-volt bulb.

"FEEL SURE VOLTAGE PRESENT AT Z4000 OUTPUT TERMINAL.  UNHOOKED TIU AND RAN WIRES DIRECT TO TRACK AND THERE WAS POWER, ENGINE RAN FINE."

Craig, that's a good sign that the Z4000 is working.

Didn't realize your TIU was old.  If you bought it in 2007, you must have bought it used or the dealer had it lying around for a long time.  The original issue, Rev G, which had no revision sticker on the bottom, had a defect, which MTH repaired under warranty.  My 2 Rev G's failed back in 2002 or 2003.  They still work fine after MTH did some rearranging inside.  If your TIU has no sticker on the bottom, and no one removed the sticker, it's one of these.   Quite frankly, I'm surprised that MTH would even tackle a TIU that truly was original issue.

MTH superseded the Rev G with Rev H long before 2007.

I suggest you call MTH tech support and discuss this.

"PURCHASED TIU AS NEW FROM LOCAL DEALER THAT NO LONGER IS IN BUSINESS.  PURCHASE DATE MAY  NOT BE CORRECT, NEED TO LOOK AT RECEIPT.  NO STICKER ON BOTTOM.   WHEN ORIGINAL PROBLEM OCCURRED LAST WEEK, PER MTH WEB PAGE I OPENED CASE AND SAW THERE WERE NO FUSES INSIDE.  ALSO SAW SMALLER LOOSE BOARD WHICH WAS NOR SEATED TO LARGER BOARD DUE TO WIRE FROM TERMINAL INSIDE NOT ALLOWING BOARD TO SEAT. SENT TO MTH FOR REPAIR. M MTH JUST REPLACED A  BB0000033 DIODE, REPLACED SHORTED TVS, REPAIR RF MODULE SOCKET, INSTALLED SW V5.0.  THEY SAID THEY CHECKED EVERYTHING AND IT WAS WORKING.   MAY CALL THEM TOMORROW.  SOUNDS LIKE I MAY NEED TO PURCHASE ANOTHER TIU/REMOTE SET ASSUMING I CAN USE THE REMOTE I HAVE AS AN EXTRA.

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP/RESPONSES. I'm STILL LEARNING, BUT I CAN'T SEEM TO FIGURE THIS OUT.
